Email etiquette during a divorce
In business I'd never respond to a lawyer in an adversarial relationship. Communication would have to be lawyer to lawyer. I think this is
standard.
Fortunately, I've never been sued in all these years, and I've never defaulted on a due bill. I've never sued anyone. So I don't have to worry about those wasted bills or meaningless crises.
My business needs attention from me now… but I'm tired and depressed. I often don't take care of friends these days. Sad irony. I don't like that about myself.
Divorce lawyers think they're outside of normal rules. They use standards like " fair" and " equitable that are not defined in any other area of law. But then they like to see themselves as fierce advocates…the personal injury bar of emotions.
Are you sad? We will WIN BIG for you! We will bend the rules of decency to corrupt fairness, because you are a victim!
Makes no sense.
Still, as a non-lawyer, never talk to opposing counsel.
I have my own rules in my divorce given the special circumstances—never talk to a lawyer in any context who finished in the bottom half of their law class.
I don't know if this means I can't talk to my ex. She's not technically a lawyer, but I don't know where she graduated in law school. She didn't leave any impact on her MLS class…or do anything with her degrees. I don't know if she was actually in the bottom 50% in either case. Not law review.
Moot point. She won't respond to me. Never did. In bed. In conversation. In illness. In suffering. Tough to be I love with someone who charges by the hour.
