A big step out

I woke up yesterday with a weird thought—that now was the right time to delete my Facebook account.

No real reason. But when I thought about it, I couldn't think of a single thing that really mattered to me from the posts. Some funny atheist quotes? But I'm already pretty good at those.

So I started the process—and realized Facebook will do anything to prevent users from exiting. They hide the location. They requires a 30 day holding period. And they try repeatedly to push "deactivation" rather than deletion.

Now I knew I was doing the best thing for me. Any digital platform that makes it harder to cancel than to subscribe is benefitting more than the customer.

It took me 30 minutes and a bunch of YouTube videos to delete, and I have 29 days until I disappear. I can't wait! I prefer my own lonely company to reels and posts. I don't need to be found. Goodbye universe. Hello David.
