Law and Order My Ass

The idiot in the White House believes that it's a good idea for 17-year old kids to load up with weapons and drive to minority communities to defend property.  He believes that such a kid, after a two-hour drive filled with intentionality, has a right to a self-defense claim when he unloads his weapons into a crowd.

So, I want to make it absolutely clear:  you won't even let 17 year olds into our military or secret police.  Now, without any training, you want them on the streets, near schools, and on the fringes of agitated citizens?

What the serious fuck.  You, Donald Trump, are a dangerous accessory to murder.

Here's a baseline principle: no teenager should have access to weapons.  This would reduce the teen suicide rate in the United States by half in an instant. It would reduce the number of women murdered by young boyfriends. And it would save our Democracy.  As has always been the case in the United States, people who reject the government need to fear for their lives.  They aren't armed, and all the counter protesters, police, militias--and school kids--are.

By the way, no adult should have access to guns either, but that's not essential to the hatred I feel toward those who enable kids to take guns to the streets.

My guess is that many young Black Americans won't be scared off by the arming of white youth, though the logic might be very scary for a country that incessantly brags about freedom and democratic values.  I imagine it goes like this:  "we're going to get shot in the back at some point by cops, so we might as well protest.  The risk isn't any higher from a 17-year old bigot than from a 35-year old bigot." And their bullets are equally lethal.

My guess is that the kid is a better shot than most cops.

It takes courage to protest now in the United States.  You're more likely to be assassinated than were the protestors in Tehran, Tiannemen Square, or San Paulo. We have to accept that and move on. And continue, ever more loudly, to scream back against those armed against us.
