Why hate Huawei when we love Google and Apple and Samsung?

Our latest false pretense in international business relations requires that we see Huawei as a bad actor.   Every one is piling on, offering hyperbole after hyperbole.   The major themes are:
  • Huawei has oppressed the Chinese people, keeping them dumb and isolated, because they can't see Google or Youtube!
  • Huawei is competing unfairly by selling switches at cheap prices.
  • Huawei's leaders are criminals.
  • Huawei wants to invade your privacy!!!!
I'd like to at least record a fifth option, which I believe to be true:   Huawei owns nearly all the patents on the next generation of cell technology, 5G.  (As far as I can tell, Ericsson and Nokia own a smattering that brings us to 100% of the 5G IP--but they don't have the advantages of low cost production, so they can't compete.)

So...if you let the cell technology market take its natural course, Huawei would displace the 4G players to become the "sole source" over the next 12 months.   Every tech player still standing would be paying royalties to Huawei to continue to serve their cell phone clients.

We know what that's like...Microsoft adds $250 to the cost of every single computer sold in the world.

Except--this is a Chinese company.   The four drummed-up lies are preposterous.   I particularly love the last one...the idea that Huawei will somehow introduce a level of government surveillance that's worse that what the current crop to tech giants .   Please don't believe this BS, and recognize this idea for what it is--unfair trade practices promulgated by the sore losers.   In fact, our US government already has access to everything you do and everywhere you are, every minute.

The only difference with Huawei is that more of the profits from current surveillance will leak out of the pockets of the current top 25 wealthiest individuals in the world.

If you disagree with the above statement, please note that not one of the top 25 supported Julian Assange against extradition.   Wikileaks is the only organization that's documented the deals these guys have to capitalize on your privacy---with whomever will pay.  Truth is the enemy of the richest men in the world.

There's only one reason Huawei is being demonized:   they've beaten the world at 5G, fair and square.

The sky is failing!  What's left to do?   Claim Huawei are crooks and pressure the other oligarch tech companies (Google punted today by pulling their software from Huawei tech, where it's already been for years and years) to withdraw--all so these oligarchs can retain their privacy-invasion revenue lines.   They pressure other nation states to not honor international trade law too.

Read the papers.   That's the propaganda line you're being fed every day.   It's the cries technocrats and the US leadership who know they're beaten.  So, as always, we cheat, backstab, lie...and ascribe those behaviors to countries where the skin color is a few shades darker then ours.   Again.   Again.

I don't love Huawei either, but the idea that they're worse than every one else who sells  If Huawei wins, the covert guys would have to pay twice as much--half to China--to continue to spy on you as they are now.  I guess they'd be able to spy faster on 5G than on 4G?  Our choices now are grim--we have to root for an ugly and oversized international conglomerate, or we further succumb to our secret police-led #HandmaidsTale state.
