Favorite restaurants in the center of Paris

Here's our list of restaurants we loved during our three months here, living near Les Halles on Rue Montorgueil.  Our tastes run to local/seasonal/creative/neighborhood—and as you can see, not necessarily French—so most of these options also show up well on places like LeFooding and even Yelp.  You can only consume so many salad nicoises a month before your palate starts searching for a new experience.   Each restaurant has strong veggie options

  1. Frenchies Vin et Bar…Rue du Nil, 2eme.   We like the wine bar over the full restaurant across the street, but ate at both places and would go back in a minute.  We didn't go here at first because the name seemed silly--which was a mistake because it's fantastic.
  2. La Terrasse…Hotel Terrasse, 18eme Montmartre.  Best view of the City I know of and fantastic food
  3. 36 Corneil…36, Rue de Rochechouart, 9eme—hopping bar with great tapas (the cheese plate is enough for four) and often dancing later at night.   Great music  all the time.
  4. Bespoke…3, Rue Oberkampf, 11eme.   Also great selection of tapas and fun bar scene.   This is the restaurant we were at the night of November 13th—around the corner from the Bataclan.
  5. Hollybelly…19 Rue Lucien Sampaix, 10eme.   A sort of American breakfast place on steriods.   Good music, great French bread
  6. L'as Du Fallafel…34, Rue des Rosiers 4eme.   Something of a landmark but the line is usually short.   Perhaps not the best falafel in the universe, but certainly in the running.   Perfect lunch spot
  7. 404…69 Rue des Gravilliers, 3eme.   Beautiful interior and couscous like new fallen snow.   This is as good as Moroccan food gets…great for lunch or dinner.
  8. Pirouette…5 rue du Mondetour, 1er.   Great tastes and nice interior.
  9. L'Altro…6eme.   This has been a favorite of ours for a very long time—continues to put out top tier Italian in new and fun ways.
  10. Verjus...1er...consciously unfashionable dress code for the waitstaff seems designed to keep you focused on the food, which is local and rich and wonderful.
  11. CafĂ© Vivienne…1er.   Our favorite of the local French bistros.   The perfect combination of velvet banquettes and wonderful food and wine.   Great for a long lunch or dinner .
  12. Hang-A-Li...7 Rue Louvis, 2eme.   Great Korean...start with the bibimbap and go from there!

Other activities:

  • Le Bains du Marais…31 Rue des Blancs Manteaux, 4eme—Hamman.   Women only most of the time but coed Sunday and Wednesday
